The Trekking Group
For the Gokyo Valley Ri Trek, there will be one Guide, assistant Guide (4 trekkers:1 assistant guide) and porters for luggage carrying (2 trekkers:1 porter) maximum weight is 30kg per porter. This arrangement ensures that should any body in the group is sick, the trip can still go ahead as planned. We can run the Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek for group of any size, but generally we include maximum of 14 people, as we've found this to be the optimum size for a successful trip. However, if you'd like to make a group booking for more than 14 people together, we can arrange this too.
Accommodations
All accommodations for Gokyo Valley Ri Trek are on twin sharing basis included in the trip cost and are chosen based on standard of hygiene, standard of service and food, location, etc. There are two styles of accommodations during our trekking. You will spend four nights in a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu and during your trekking you will spend nights in standard teahouse/lodge/hotel in which there are unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses. We provide attached rooms as much as possible, however teahouses/lodges of some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. If you are a solo traveler, you will share a room with someone else of same sex of your group. If you prefer a single room, you may indicate your preference and get single rooms on request by paying single supplement There are several places that do not allow single accommodations in the Everest Region. On paying single supplement, you will get single room in Kathmandu but it is possible only up to Namche Bazzar during the trek. Above Namchhe Bazzar single accommodation is not always feasible. However, we will try our best to provide you with single rooms in all places if possible.
Meals
During your Gokyo Valley Ri Trek, you can enjoy typical Nepali food, different ethnic cuisines as well as all types of international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.) from pizza and Chips to apple pie. You can even enjoy hot chocolates, variety of breads, variety of drinks, and snacks. Breakfast of a day will be provided from the teahouse/lodge menu where you spent your night. Lunch will be served on the way to destination, dinner and breakfast in the teahouse where you will spend the night. A welcome dinner, a farewell dinner and breakfasts will be provided during your stay in Kathmandu.
Health and Experience Requirements
Gokyo Valley Ri Trek is a moderate high trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 4-7 hours a day with a light rucksack. In some days we might even need to walk 8 to 9 hours. Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude, self confidence and strong determination, we can accomplish the trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks prior to the trip is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is vital that we consult with our doctor before we decide and set up for the Everest Base camp trek. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform sPORT ADVENTURE before booking the trek.
Travel Insurance
It is a condition upon joining any of Sport Adventure's trips that all clients be insured for comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and treatment costs).
Best Season
Mid September- December & Mid February –June are the best seasons for the Everest-Three High passess Trek. The weather during day is sunny and warm with outstanding views but nights are cold and can fall to freezing in higher elevations. Winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) is also good for Gokyo Valley Ri Trek, only issue is cold (obviously). Trekking in summer/monsoon(June, July) will be affected by rain but summer trek could be a boon for a keen botanist. The trekking routes are crowded during spring and autumn but during monsoon and winter the routes are not packed and you could enjoy rather best of nature.
Environmental Concerns
The Everest region is stunningly beautiful, but equally fragile. Future generations have just as much of a right to appreciate it as we do. Hence, the tourism industry has an obligation to protect and preserve it. SPORT ADVENTURE employs a 'zero impact' policy on the natural environment and the traditional communities that live at the travelled places. We enforce a number of do's and don'ts. So you have to be very careful on the way about garbage.
AMS- Acute Mountain Sickness
Altitude sickness often known as acute mountain sickness (A.M.S.) in general may occur when people ascend too quickly normally in altitudes of over 3000 m. We ensure minimal risk by building in rest days into our trekking itineraries. Most people will feel some affect of altitude, shortness of breath and possibly a light headed, which is fairly common. Acute mountain sickness is very different and normally involves a severe headache, sickness and loss of awareness. In almost every potential case there are enough warning signs to take appropriate action.
Our expert and trained guides will advise you about any health requirements and also altitude sickness while you are trekking, so you should not worry about it, we do however recommend you get advice from your travel doctor or health advisor before you leave. The following information gives you an idea about high altitude sickness and how to minimize the affects.
